The Best Way to Clean Slate Floor Tiles

Slate is a natural, durable stone commonly used in floor construction. Slate floor tiles typically come in a neutral color, fitting in with almost any decor. Little maintenance is required to maintain the appearance of slate flooring, aside from a regular cleaning routine. To keep slate floors clean, mix a mild solution of cleaning ingredients most likely already in your kitchen pantry.

Things You'll Need

• Bucket
• Mop
• Dust mop
• Broom
• Dustpan
• Mild laundry detergent

Instructions

1. Dust the slate floor tiles with a dust mop every few days to collect dirt buildup and light residue.

2. Sweep the tile with a soft broom regularly, collecting dirt and discarding in the trash. This will collect heavier debris.

3. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and 2 tsp. of mild laundry detergent.

4. Dip a mop in the bucket, wring it out and mop the slate tile.

5. Rinse the mop with fresh water, wring it out, and run the damp mop across the flooring once more. This will collect any leftover soap residue.

6. Allow the floor to air-dry.
