How to Block Nero 9 Ports
Nero requires Internet access to register features, activate patents, and activate the software. According to the Nero 9 Support FAQ, "Nero needs the http Port 80" to be open to connect to the Internet. If you don't want to activate, you have to block the port, or set the program's outgoing and ingoing access rules. Using the Windows Firewall, blocking Port 80 is easy, as is blocking Nero from accessing the Internet.

Tips & Warnings
Firewalls are your first defense against hackers and viruses found on the Internet. Closing off all ports is recommended because it is better to only allow specific, trusted programs access to the Web. Especially when not in a secure home environment, open unsecured networks can be popular trolling grounds.
Additional copies of Nero's patents can be purchased for a discount price if you already own the a copy of the program.
If port 80 is necessary for another program on your computer, consider using the "Program" rule. When asked which program to block from outbound connections, select "NeroPatentActivation.exe."
If patents are not activated, the Nero Support FAQ states that, "Though you are able to install [the] software components without any limitation, you must register them within 30 days of your first usage. After the 30 days have expired, you must activate the patent in order to continue to access the respective features."
This means that certain components will cease to work if they are not activated over the Internet. In this case it would be best to temporarily allow access to http port 80, then after activating, close it again.
