Even after you delete an Outlook Express email, it temporarily remains on your hard drive. To restore it, however, requires fast acting. Every time you save a file or visit a new website, there's a chance that your email will be overwritten and permanently destroyed. Saving them requires specialized software. There are many file recovery tools available on the Internet, but for this task you need a program that specifically restores Outlook Express emails. There are many of these to choose from as well.

Instructions

1. Download and install an Outlook Express email recovery program. There are a number of free options available online, including those developed by MT Solutions and Smart PC Solutions. When downloading and installing, be sure to do so on a separate drive, as every file you save on your email's drive increases the odds of your email being overwritten.

2. Open your recovery program.

3. Click the "Scan" button. Your recovery program will now scan your hard drive for the lost email. This process might take a few minutes.

4. Find your email. The recovery program will create a list of all the deleted emails it could find. This list could potentially be dozens or even hundreds of emails long. Many programs allow you to sort by date deleted or even the email's title. Use these functions to make search easier.

5. Restore your email by checking the box next to it and click the "Restore" button. The email will automatically be returned to your Outlook inbox or the folder from which it was deleted.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure that you're not using a generic system recovery tool, as it will be unable to detect specific Outlook emails. You need specialized Outlook Express recovery tools for this process to work.
