How to Reinstall an HP MediaSmart EX475 Home Server
The HP MediaSmart EX475 Home Server offers one terabyte of storage for media files and system backups from all your home computers. While the HP MediaSmart EX475 has a powerful processor and high hard drive speeds, in the event your data becomes corrupted or the hard drive fails you can restore and reinstall the HP MediaSmart Home Server to get it working like new.

- HP MediaSmart Server Control Center software installation disc

Connect your computer to the HP MediaSmart EX475 Home Server using a USB cable. (A wireless connection during the reinstallation process can be unstable and is not recommended.) Make sure the Home Server is turned on.

Close the HP MediaSmart Server Control Center software if it is currently running on your computer. Insert the Server Recovery Disc that came with your HP MediaSmart Server into your computer's disc drive. Click "Next" once the Server Recovery software starts.

Uninstall the HP MediaSmart Server software by clicking "Control Panel" from the Start menu. Start the "Add or Remove Programs" software. Click "HP MediaSmart Server" and click remove. Remove "Windows Home Server Connector" from the list as well.

Hold the power button on the back of the HP MediaSmart Home Server for at least four seconds. The server will shut down. Insert the end of a pin or paper clip into the recessed button labeled "Status/Recovery" on the back of the unit. Press the power button again to allow the Home Server to restart.

Press the "Status/Recovery" button again while the Health Indicator light flashes blue and red. The Health Indicator light should blink purple and red if this is done correctly.

Click "Next" on the Server Recovery software on your computer. Follow the instructions in the window in order to recover the system. The Home Server will restart and the Health Indicator light will turn blue and stop blinking. Click "Finish" and remove the System Recovery Disc from your computer.

Insert the software installation disc and install the MediaSmart Server software back on to your computer.

Tips & Warnings
Using Server Recovery will delete all of your user settings. You'll need to recreate these after reinstallation.
