Crown molding is a gorgeous addition to any room. An often overlooked area where crown molding can really shine are kitchen cabinets. Adding crown molding to kitchen cabinets increases the drama and architectural detail of a kitchen. With just a little bit of time and effort, you can take your builder-grade cabinetry and make it look like it was custom-made for your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • 1x2 board
  • Miter saw
  • Pneumatic nail gun
  • Crown molding
  • Caulk
  • Wood putty
  • Paint or stain and polyurethane

Instructions

      Measure the top three sides of your kitchen cabinets. Transfer the measurements to a 1x2 board. Mark the measurements with a pencil.

      Use a miter saw to cut the 1x2 board to the measurements specified. Using a pneumatic nail gun, nail the boards into place on the top of the kitchen cabinets. Theses boards will provide a place for you to nail your crown molding.

      Take the cabinet measurements and transfer them to the crown molding. Set the miter saw at a 45-degree angle. Cut the crown molding with the saw at the 45-degree angle.

      Nail the crown molding into place on top of the kitchen cabinetry. Use the pneumatic nail gun to nail the molding to the previously installed 1x2 board on top of the cabinetry.

      Fill the gap between the crown molding and the kitchen cabinetry with caulk. Fill the nail holes with wood putty. Allow the caulk and the putty to dry. Paint or stain the crown molding to match the kitchen cabinetry.
