How to Illuminate a Glass Countertop
LED (Light Emitting Diode) edge lighting is by far the best way to illuminate a glass counter top. LED lights use 90 percent less energy than regular incandescent light bulbs and do not generate heat. What's more, LED lighting gives you up to 60,000 hours of service. However, the real beauty of LED light strips is that they spread consistent light throughout the object being lit. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Chose LED lighting that is right for your counter top. If you are having your glass back painted, select True White LED light strips. If you have starphire (water clear) glass, RGB color-changing lights offer as many as 16 million color possibilities depending upon the sophistication of the controller.

2
Install u-channel or tracking to run the full length of your counter top using a power screwdriver. The u-channel or tracking installs onto the wall and must be the exact depth of your glass counter top and flush with the counter top backsplash. If it is not, use a miter saw to cut out the drywall necessary to recess the u-channel or tracking.

3
Attach LED light strips to the u-channel or tracking. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the power supply jumper and transformer installation. Instructions will vary based upon the sophistication of the system you are installing.
-
4
Test your LED light system before you position your counter top into place. If you have selected RGB color-changing lights, make certain the controller is functioning properly. If you have a remote control, test it as well.

5
Install your glass counter top. Load your caulk gun. Cut the tip off the caulk tube nozzle and use the tool on the caulk gun to break the seal on the caulk tube. Pump the trigger on the caulk gun until silicone adhesive/caulk starts to flow.

6
Run a bead of silicone caulk between your counter top and backsplash. Dip your finger into a bowl of very soap water to smooth the bead. Keep repeating the process until the bead is smooth.

Tips & Warnings
Discuss your lighting plans with your glass supplier when you place your counter top order. This is especially important if you are having your counter top back painted. You do not want any excess painted fired onto the edging.
Never attempt to install heavy glass without a helper.
