How to Use Mayonnaise Hair Treatment

When it's time to deep condition your hair, save your money and use a mayonnaise hair treatment. The high-priced oil hair treatments available at salons and stores are great ways to make your hair shiny and healthy, but get the same results with a dollop of a condiment you probably already have in the refrigerator.

Even though the price of mayonnaise has gone up like just about everything else, a 1-quart jar usually costs anywhere from $2 to $6. The number of deep conditioning hair treatments per jar are around 25 to 30. Even if all you use the mayonnaise for was for mayonnaise hair treatment, it would still be a bargain compared to deep conditioners made specifically for hair that may cost $6 each. Instructions

    • 1

Wet hair to prepare it for deep conditioning. Use warm water and wrap your hair in a towel until ready to apply the mayonnaise hair treatment.

    • 2

Scoop out two or three tablespoons of mayonnaise into a bowl. How much you'll need will depend on the length of your hair. For short hair, start with 1 to 1-1/2 tablespoons. For medium length/shoulder-length hair, start with 2 tablespoons, and for long hair, scoop our 3 tablespoons.

    • 3

Apply the mayonnaise liberally to the scalp rubbing it in with the fingertips. Apply more mayonnaise along the length of the hair until all of the hair is coated.

    • 4

Wrap a plastic bag around the hair, being careful to keep the bag away from the face. The bag will trap the heat from your head allowing the mayonnaise hair treatment to work deep down.

    • 5

Leave the mayonnaise on for 20 minutes then rinse thoroughly.
