How to Hook Up the Wiring to the Alternator on a 66 Mustang
Only three wires attach to the back of the 1966 Ford Mustang's alternator. These three wires connect the voltage regulator to the alternator. The voltage regulator is located inside the engine compartment, on the driver's side of the radiator support. Each wire features a metal loop at its tip, which slides onto a specific threaded post on the back of the alternator. Hooking up the alternator is only a matter of attaching the proper wire to its post and securing the wire in place with a nut.

Locate the black-colored wire with the red stripe at the bottom of the voltage regulator.

Slide the metal loop on the black wire with the red stripe onto the threaded post at the bottom of the back of the alternator.

Twist the post's nut onto the pole in a clockwise direction, then tighten the nut only until snug with a wrench.

Locate the white wire at the bottom of the voltage regulator.

Slide the metal loop on the white wire onto the threaded post just above the post the black wire with the red stripe is attached to on the back of the alternator.

Twist the post's nut onto the pole in a clockwise direction, then tighten the nut only until snug with a wrench.

Locate the black-colored wire with the yellow stripe at the bottom of the voltage regulator.

Slide the metal loop on the black wire with the yellow stripe onto the threaded post just above the post the white wire is attached to on the back of the alternator.

Twist the post's nut onto the pole in a clockwise direction, then tighten the nut only until snug with a wrench.
