How to Install Windows Media Player ActiveX

ActiveX is a software plugin that has a variety of uses. One us is to allow you to use Windows Media Player within the Firefox Web browser to access audio and video. The installation of this plugin also allows video links accessed via Firefox to launch Media Player automatically without you having to save the video file and then access it manually via the player.

Instructions

1. Close all programs and browser windows, including Firefox. Also ensure that Windows Media Player is closed as well.

2. Open Windows Internet Explorer and navigate to the website listed in the Resources section of this article.

3. Click on "Download Now" to download the ActiveX plugin for Mozilla Firefox.

4. Wait for the download to complete and restart the computer if prompted. Launch the Mozilla Firefox browser. If a popup appears saying that new add-on updates are available, click on "Update" in the pop up window. Restart the Firefox browser to complete the installation.

5. Click on "Tools," followed by "Add-Ons," and select the "Plugin" tab. Click on "Enable" next to the Active-X item to activate the plugin. Restart Firefox if prompted.
