Developing an iPhone application can be difficult, but very rewarding.

With its third-party application development and seemingly unlimited capabilities, the iPhone has become the center of a social phenomenon involving both consumers and developers. Many people have good ideas about potential iPhone applications, but many of them never come to fruition because of the inability to successfully develop the actual product.

Consider the feasibility of your app's success based on some realistic criteria. According to Jen Gordon of Smashing Magazine, your app should solve a unique problem, serve a specific niche, make people laugh, improve on existing apps or demonstrate a high level of interactivity. If your app idea does not meet up to your requirements, rethink your approach.

Join the Apple iPhone Developer Program. This will cost you $99, so be sure that you want to go through with this venture before you do so.

    • 3

Download the iPhone GUI PSD 3.0 and learn how to use it. If you find that you are just not a designer or that this program is too difficult to use, hire a designer who can use it. If you don't know anyone, try hiring someone from a freelance site like eLance.

Begin programming. Once you have joined the Apple iPod Developer Program, you will be able to access the Apple Developer Forums. This will help you find needed support in your programming efforts. Again, if you are not a programmer or if you don't feel that you can learn, hire a programmer from eLance or a similar site.

Finish your programming and submit your application to the Apple Store. According to Jen Gordon, this can be difficult if you are not familiar with XCode, but if you have hired an experienced programmer, he or she should be able to do it.
