Laptop keys are relatively easy to reapply.

One of the most difficult areas to keep clean on a laptop is the keyboard. Dust, grime and food particles are the most common things that get stuck in between and underneath keys. Removing the keys on a Dell Latitude X300 is a simple procedure. Putting the keys back on may look like a difficult task, but it's actually simple once you know how the keys fit into their respective spots on the keyboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the bottom segment of the plastic clip from the backside of the key by gently squeezing the two sides of the bottom segment together. This will separate the bottom of the plastic clip from the top. Separating these clips and putting the key back one piece at a time will be much easier than trying to snap the whole thing in at once.

    • 2

Snap the bottom segment of the plastic clip back in place on the keyboard. There will be tiny hooks where the segment can snap into place. Slide the bottom segment into the top set of hooks (the set closest to the laptop screen).

    • 3

Work the top segment of the clip back into the bottom segment that is now attached to the keyboard. There will be two pivot points in the center of each segment. This is where the two parts attach to one another. You will need to slide the top segment into the second set of hooks (the set closest to the touch pad on your laptop).

Press down on the key. You don't need to apply too much pressure when doing this. You will hear the key snap back in place.
