How to Prepare for Special Forces Basic Training thumbnail
The US Army Special Forces is one of the most prestigious organizations in the US Military.

The United States Army Special Forces is the elite fighting unit of the United States Army, on par with the Navy SEALs, Delta Force and other elite fighting forces throughout the world. To be admitted as a member of this elite unit, recruits have to complete a grueling regimen. Preparing for such a task is not easy, but the feeling of accomplishment that accompanies the completion of this challenge cannot be matched.

Instructions

    • 1

Exercise. Long before you enter the Army as a recruit, you should begin exercising each and every day. Include both strength training and cardiovascular exercises.

    • 2

Study. You need to score a minimum General Technical score of 107 and a Combat Operation score of 98 on your Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or ASVAB. This test, more than anything else pre-enlistment, determines what jobs you are capable of performing in the United States Army. You will require a very high score to qualify for Special Forces training.

    • 3

Fly. To complete Special Forces training, you have to become Airborne certified. The only way to do this is to parachute out of an airplane, which can be a frightening proposition. You can partially remedy this fear by flying, even if just for a short time.

    • 4

Read your handbook. Every recruit is given a handbook when they reach their training post that has basic instructions for everything, ranging from first aid to how to properly identify grenades and aim down the sights of a rifle. Study this handbook extensively so that you aren't surprised when you need to quickly perform certain tasks during Special Forces training.

    • 5

Remain mentally tough. Special Forces training is designed to weed out all but the elite of the elite. Keeping yourself mentally prepared for the challenges ahead is vital to success, as any sign of weakness will be preyed upon by both your instructors and your fellow applicants.

Tips & Warnings

  • Special Forces training can be dangerous, with the live fire exercises being the most dangerous aspect of training. Do not even attempt to join the ranks of the Special Forces unless you are prepared to take on those types of dangers.
