A sliding knot

A slip knot or sliding knot is often used to finish off necklaces, bracelets and other rope jewelry. The knot must be secure, but it must also slide easily. Slip knots not only secure the ends of rope jewelry, but they also make the jewelry adjustable in size. When making homemade jewelry, the sliding knot may seem difficult to create. However, it is one of the easiest knots to tie. Anybody (children included) can tie a sliding knot to finish off a piece of jewelry.

Match up the two ends of the cord and fold over one of the ends about 3 inches. Loop the folded-over end over and under both ends of the cord.

    • 2

Loop the folded-over end of the cord around both ends of the cord two more times and pull it through the first loop.

    • 3

Pull both ends of the cord evenly in opposite directions until the knot is tight. Dab some glue onto the knot and slide it a few times to keep the glue from making the knot stick.
