How to Adjust Child Support in Leon County, Florida

The Child Support Enforcement offices handle all child support matters in the state of Florida including enforcing court-ordered arrangements and distributing payments to parents. Either parent can request modifications to the current arrangement that either decrease or increase support payments. In order to do so, the parent must work with the Leon County CSE to file the necessary paperwork and other necessary documentation. In most instances, the CSE will make a decision within six months of receiving the application. If the order occurred in another state, the CSE will work with the appropriate agency, but any modifications will be dependent on that state's law.

Instructions

Check if the new amount being requested meets the guidelines for a modification request. If the court order or last modification occurred more than three years ago, the proposed changes must adjust the amount by at least 10 percent or 25 dollars per month, whichever is larger. If a person wants to amend a court order or modification that occurred less than three years ago, the difference must be at least 15 percent or 50 dollars a month, whichever is greater.

Fill out a petition to request a change in the support order. Important information includes the names and social security numbers of both parties, case number and current contact information. A person can get this form by visiting the Leon County CSE at 3216 Sessions Rd in Tallahassee, calling 1-800-622-Kids or online at http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/childsupport/pdf/cs-po200.pdf.

Provide necessary documentation to illustrate a significant change in circumstances if you are seeking modification on an agreement in effect for less than three years. Examples include pay stubs, child care bills, medical bills, written confirmation of a disability affecting either the child or the parent, or documentation of special needs for the child that require more money to address.
