How to Remove a Boy Scout Merit Badge

Boy Scouts receive merit badges for various achievements. These badges are sewn onto a sash that hangs from the shoulder to the hip. Scouts get the sash after they receive their first merit badge. Badges are removed if the scout cheated or broke rules to get the badge. The size of the holes left by thread from the removed patch depends on the size of thread used. The larger the thread, the bigger the hole.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the garment inside out so the stitches are facing up. Removing the stitches from the back prevents damage to the embroidery on the merit badge.

    • 2

Slip the top of one of the scissors blades underneath a stitch and cut it. Repeat on all the stitches.

    • 3

Pull out the loose threads with tweezers. The patch will fall off. You can also gently pull the patch after the stitches are cut.
