A Trojan virus is different from a regular virus in that a Trojan virus cannot copy and spread itself. Nevertheless, a Trojan virus can cause a host of problems. For example, a Trojan virus can slow your computer, change your Internet settings, decrease your available memory, and flood your computer with pop-up advertisements. In addition, a Trojan virus can mess with your desktop. For example, it may change your wallpaper and add shortcuts to your desktop. To end this behavior, you must get rid of the Trojan virus altogether.

Instructions

  1. End Infected Processes

      Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

      Click on the "Task Manager."

      Click on the "Processes" tab.

      End all of the processes associated with the Trojan virus. Generally, a process associated with a Trojan virus will include the name of the Trojan virus. However, to determine whether or not a process is associated with a Trojan virus, type the name of the process into the Process Library found at the link below.

    Delete Infected DLL Files

      Click on the "Start" menu.

      Click on "Run."

      Type "cmd" (without quotation marks) into the open box and click "OK." The Command Prompt will open.

      Type "regsvr32 /u SampleDLLName.dll" (without the quotation marks) into the Command Prompt and press ENTER. (See Reference 2) Note that "SampleDLLName.dll" should be replaced with the name of the Dynamic Link Library (DLL) file associated with the Trojan Virus. This information can be found by typing in the name of the Trojan Virus at the "411-Spyware" link below.

    Delete Infected Files

      Click on "Search Files and Folders."

      Search for and delete the files associated with the Trojan Virus. To delete a file, right-click on it and select "Delete." Generally, a file associated with a Trojan Virus will include the name of the Trojan Virus. However, this information can be found by typing in the name of the Trojan Virus at the "411-Spyware" link below.
