Paint Sprayer Instructions

Learn how to use a paint sprayer.

Paint sprayers can be huge time savers if you want to paint large areas and don't need to be precise. Paint sprayers are great for uneven and rough surfaces. They work by pumping paint out of a base unit through a hose. From the hose, the paint exits through a nozzle that you hold in your hand. Paint spraying can be messy because the paint travels through the air but it is a great painting tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover anything in the area that you are painting that you don't want to get paint on. Spray paint can move easily in the air and settle in places you never expected so cover up well. If you are spraying outside, don't forget to cover any cars nearby.

    • 2

Wear protective clothing. Put on a long sleeve shirt and gloves. Be sure that you don't mind getting paint on your clothes because that is inevitable.

    • 3

Unscrew the lid of the paint sprayer by twisting it to the left until it comes off.

    • 4

Pour paint into the base of the spray unit. Use a strainer when you pour to remove lumps from the paint.

    • 5

Attach the lid of the sprayer by twisting it to the right until it's secured tightly.

    • 6

Spray the paint. Start in a top corner and work your way down. Use smooth and steady strokes. It is best to paint a number of light coats rather than one heavy coat.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're spraying outside, don't spray on a windy day.
