How to Troubleshoot a Gateway Laptop Display That Flickers On & Off
When using a Gateway laptop computer you may notice the screen occasionally flickers dull to bright. Although this usually doesn't prevent you from working on the computer it can be rather annoying. Usually the culprit is something simple and you can correct the issue in a matter of minutes. However, if your Gateway laptop is a few years old, the screen may just be failing, in which case you either need to replace the screen or purchase a new computer.

1
Check the power connection running from the wall to your Gateway computer. If the cable is not secure it can cause the power to stop and start. When the power cord is not connected the laptop screen darkens, then when the cable is connected the screen brightens up. Having a secure connection corrects the issue.

Sit away from a window. Many Gateway computers have a built in sensor that darkens or brightens the screen depending on the lighting around the computer. When sitting next to a window your computer's monitor can flicker when the outside sunlight changes (such as the sun going behind clouds).

Take your laptop into a computer repair facility. The flickering screen may be caused by a damaged bulb or pinched wires. A computer technician should evaluate this. If it is a pinched wire the technician can manipulate the location of the wire to correct the issue. However, if the bulb is damaged it needs to be replaced.
