How to Wash Sanuk Sandals

Sanuk sandals, according to the company website, are created to be as funky as they are functional for the "outdoor global community." While the cleaning instructions on the Sanuk website may lead you to believe that simply stepping under a roaring waterfall will suffice in ridding your sandals of dirt and stains, sometimes your shoes may need a little more care. Yet when it comes to cleaning your sandals, there is no secret formula. In fact, you will likely find that the procedures are not that different from those required by many of the other footwear you own. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Sidewalk Surfer Sandal Cleaning

    • 1

Spot treat any stained areas by spraying the affected area with laundry stain remover. Rub the stain remover into the stain with a clean toothbrush and allow to sit for the time recommended by the product manufacturer before laundering. You may want to test the stain remover in an inconspicuous area of the sandals to ensure that it won't cause a color change to the fabric.

    • 2

Set your washing machine to its lowest, cool-water setting and add enough mild liquid laundry detergent for a small load.

    • 3

Place the canvas sandals in the machine and allow the machine to complete its cycle.

    • 4

Remove the sandals and allow them to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from extreme, intense heat.

    All Other Sandals

    • 5

Fill a small bowl with warm water and add a 1 to 2 drops of mild liquid soap. Agitate the mixture with your fingers to mix the soap and water.

    • 6

Dip a clean cloth into the soap-and-water solution and wipe down all areas of the sandals. Rinse out the cloth under running water before dipping it back into the soapy water if it becomes soiled.

    • 7

Rinse the sandals with a cloth dampened with clean water. Wipe dry with a clean towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • When cleaning leather sandals, wipe the leather areas with a clean, damp cloth. Gently brush the nap of suede foot-beds with the bristles of a clean tooth brush to restore the nap or remove dried dirt.
