How to Replace an Amana Dryer Timer

Replacing your Amana dryer timer entails removing the electronic PC board inside the control console. The timer is actually the cycle selector on the right side of the control console. It is a good idea to wear an anti-static wrist strap when working around electronic PC boards. This will keep you grounded and will also prevent accidental static charge from damaging the board. Instructions

      Disconnect the Amana washer power cord from the wall outlet. Lay a sheet over the top of the washer to protect the washer finish as you are working. Pull the cycle selector knob straight off the face of the control console.

      Remove the three screws on the top rear edge of the control console that secure the control console to the washer with a nut driver. Pull the top of the control console forward so that the inside of the control console is facing you.

      Locate the PC board on the right side of the control console. Grab the wire ribbons that connect to the board at their ends. Hold the edge of the PC board with one hand and pull the wire ribbons away from the PC board with your free hand.

      Depress the four locking tabs that secure the PC board to the control console with your fingers. Lift the PC board out of the control console and set it in a safe place. Handle the PC board by its edges to prevent damaging the electrical components on the board.

      Lift the locking tab on the side of the cycle selector knob switch and twist the switch counterclockwise to remove it from the console. The cycle selector switch is the flat black square component that sits between the PC board and the control console.

      Place the replacement cycle selector knob switch in position and rotate it clockwise until it locks. Place the PC board back into position and press down the edges of the PC board until it locks under the retaining tabs.

      Slide the wire ribbons back into their respective positions on the PC board.

      Place the control console back into the upright position and secure the control console to the washer with the three retaining screws. Slide the cycle selector knob back onto the face of the control console. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
