How to Remove a C-Shaped Nose Ring
C-shaped nose rings are typically called horsehoe barbells and are a common type of body jewelry. When they are used in a septum piercing, they can be flipped up and hidden while the wearer is at work. The C-shaped nose ring is a simple piece of jewelry to care for, and being aware of how to open one can help facilitate jewelry changes without the assistance of a piercer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Put on a pair of latex gloves. These gloves will give you more gripping ability as you handle your jewelry, which might be slick or difficult to hold comfortably.
-
2
Pull the C-shaped nose ring so that one ball is snug up against your skin and the other is hanging out. This will give you the most space to work with.
-
-
3
Pinch the shaft of the C-shaped nose ring firmly between the thumb and forefinger of one hand. This allows you to hold the shaft steady.
-
4
Unscrew the ball by pinching it between two fingers and twisting it to the left. The ball can be removed from the shaft entirely in this fashion.
-
5
Place the loose ball in a safe place where you will not lose it.
-
6
Remove the nose ring by grasping the ball of the other end and pulling the bare end through the piercing.

Tips & Warnings
In most C-shaped nose rings, both balls can be unscrewed and removed. If you cannot seem to budge one ball, try unscrewing the other.
For better healing and less irritation in your piercing, choose jewelry that is internally threaded. This means that there is a short, threaded post that allows the ball to be screwed into the shaft of your jewelry. Jewelry that has threading on the shaft can irritate your piercing when it is inserted.
