Ponds require filters to keep them clean and free of debris.

A garden pond adds beauty to a landscape and doesn't usually require much maintenance. A pond does require regular cleaning, although its ecosystem will balance out and clean itself to a certain extent. Installing a filter in your garden pond will help keep the water clean and free of debris, fish excrement and bacteria that can cause algae buildup. Garden ponds usually require a submerged filter, which is easy to install and maintain. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Place the filter close to the pump and connect them with a hose or tubing. Attach the hose to both the filter and pond pump by slipping a threaded connector over the end of the hose. Tighten the connectors firmly together with your hands, but not so tight that you can't remove them.

Connect the pond filter's exhaust hose to a fountain or waterfall hose using a threaded connector. Do not use sealants or adhesives on the pond pump and filter connections, as they will prevent you from removing and cleaning the hoses if they become clogged.

Place the filter in the pond in an area that will not be blocked by mud or debris. Hide the filter with plants to make it less noticeable, if you wish.
