How to Cut a Light Diffuser
Light diffusers are essential tools for any amateur or professional photographer. They can reduce the effects of harsh lighting on a close-up subject when the flash is needed. Instead of one single source of light, these diffusers spread out the light, giving the shot even tones and a smoother contrast. Although professional-level light diffusers can cost hundreds of dollars, you can created your own inexpensive light diffusers using items commonly found in the kitchen.

Empty the plastic milk carton and wash it thoroughly with hot water and dish soap. Make sure it is fully clean or else it will begin to stink like rotting milk when exposed to the heat of the flash.

2
Cut off enough of the milk carton's top so your flash will slide into it. Cut two vertical slits along two opposing sides.

3
Insert the flash until just the base is exposed out the bottom.
-
4
Secure the diffuser in place with the hook-and-loop fastener or large rubber band.
