Directions for Embroidery Floss Friendship Bracelets
Trading friendship bracelets has been a popular gesture among girlfriends for generations. Making these colorful bracelets can be enjoyable, and even more entertaining when you give them away to someone special. Use colorful embroidery floss to weave an attractive bracelet. It involves a single basic knot.
Things You'll Need
- Embroidery floss (four different colors)
- Scissors
- Large safety pin
- Firm pillow
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a 25-inch-long length of each embroidery floss color.
-
2
Place the lengths of floss together with the ends even and tie an overhand knot approximately 3 inches away from one end.
-
-
3
Insert the safety pin through the knot and position the knot at the top of the firm pillow. Insert the pin through the pillow to hold the knot at the top of the pillow. The pillow will be the foundation for your work area.
-
4
Separate the four colors of floss.
-
5
Grasp the floss on the left and place it over and then under the floss strand immediately to the right of the first strand. Pull the first strand to the left to tighten the knot. Make a second knot in the same fashion around the same strand to make a double knot.
-
6
Use the same left strand to tie two similar knots around the next strand. Repeat with the same left strand to tie two similar knots to the last strand on the right.
-
7
Place the left strand at the right of the strands now (it becomes the right strand).
-
8
Repeat steps 5 through 7 with the new left strand---this left strand eventually becomes the new right strand.
-
9
Continue repeating steps 5 through 7 with the left strand to make diagonal rows of knots. Continue knotting in the same fashion until your bracelet is as long as you desire.
-
10
Tie all four strands together in a tight overhand knot under the last row of diagonal knots when the bracelet is long enough.
-
11
Remove the safety pin from the top knot and lift the bracelet from the pillow.
-
12
Tie the two bracelet ends together around your wrist or around your friend's wrist to finish the bracelet. Trim the ends on the other side of the knot to finish.
