Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to a DSL modem.

The Inspiron 531 is a desktop computer designed and manufactured by Dell. If you have a DSL modem that is capable of providing high speed Internet connectivity to your home or office, you'll need to utilize an Ethernet cable to access the Internet with your Inspiron 531. Make sure that both your Dell Inspiron 531 desktop PC and your DSL modem are securely connected to wall outlets via their power cables. Both units need to use the power that is being provided by your home in order to operate.

Plug one end of a regular CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the Ethernet cable input on the back of your DSL modem. It does not matter which end of the cable you use for this purpose.

Plug the other end of the regular CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the Ethernet cable input on the back of your Dell Inspiron 531 desktop PC. This input will be on the rear panel of your desktop PC. Once this is done the two devices will be properly connected to each other and your desktop PC will immediately begin using the Ethernet cable to connect itself to the Internet.
