How to Install a Hard Drive in an HP Pavilion Computer
Just like any computer, HP Pavilion hard drives can crash without warning. At some point you will either have to pay someone to replace it, or you can replace yourself. You can save a lot of money by installing it yourself. 1
Turn off your computer and disconnect the power cable and any miscellaneous cables and peripheral devices. Wait 10 to 15 minutes before attempting to open your computer.
-
2
Place the computer on a table or flat surface at a height that is comfortable for you to work on your computer.
-
-
3
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four retaining screws located at the rear of your computer tower, then set them aside.
-
4
Slide each side panel out from the computer tower and set them aside on a flat surface.
-
5
Remove the two Phillips screws that hold the drive cage in place, then set them aside. These screws are located on either side of the computer frame at the top. Pull out the metal latch and push the drive cage forward out of the frame.
-
6
Disconnect all cables attached to each device in the back of the drive cage. It is a good idea to label each cable so you will remember how to reconnect each cable to the correct device. When this is done, completely remove the drive cage from computer frame and set it on a flat, workable surface.
-
7
Remove the two screws that secure the hard drive in place. These screws are located on the outside of the drive cage. After this is done, slide the drive through the rear of the drive cage.
-
8
Slide the new hard drive through the back of the drive cage, then replace the two securing Phillips screws.
-
9
Repeat 1 through 6 in reverse order to reassemble your system.
