How to Write a Preschool Newsletter
A preschool newsletter is one way to communicate information to parents. A single page document divided into three or four clear sections will be easily read. Newsletters may include a calendar of events, updates on current projects, tips for activities at home and information specific to the age group. Follow a specific format and create the newsletter regularly to increase the impact.

1
Determine what categories to use in the newsletter. A calendar of upcoming events, details on current projects and tips for activities parents can do with the students at home are typical. Limit the categories so the newsletter is only one page long because busy parents may not read more than one page.

2
Choose the specific software to create the template for the newsletter. A variety of software designed for publishing documents is available or a simple Microsoft Word document can be created. A template will make the creation of future newsletters faster as new information can be added to the existing template without the need for formatting. Choose a standard font and consistent type sizes, and consider including the school logo in the masthead.

3
Determine the frequency of the newsletter. If information changes often, a weekly letter can keep parents updated. Choose monthly or quarterly if information is less urgent.
-
4
Include contact information for suggestions or questions from the parents. An email address or phone number are the easiest methods of communication.

Tips & Warnings
Use simple graphics and lined sections to add impact to the newsletter. Color can add impact, but is more expensive to produce. Use colored paper if desired. A newsletter can be handwritten if a computer or typewriter is not available, but is much more labor-intensive to ensure the handwriting is clear.
