Use the Blank Spaces in Scrabble

Blank tiles in the game of Scrabble can be used to substitute any letter of your choice in word formations. Each Scrabble set includes two blank tiles. Once used during a game, each blank tile must remain the declared letter until that game ends.

Instructions

    • 1

Incorporate blank tiles into longer words whenever possible. You earn zero points when you use your blank tiles, so use their flexibility to create higher-scoring words.

    • 2

Take double- and triple-word score opportunities whenever possible, but avoid using blank tiles on double- and triple-letter score spaces.

    • 3

Use blank tiles to substitute for lower-score letters rather than higher-score letters, so as to not sacrifice more points than necessary.
