How to Wire Up a Bulb Socket
Lamps have a tendency to stop working for one reason or another--the switch no longer works, the socket is damaged and a bulb no longer fits into the socket properly or the socket burned when the lamp cord shorted. Whatever the reason your lamp stopped working, wiring up a bulb socket is a quick and easy fix. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Move your lamp to a stable work area and remove the lamp shade and light bulb.
-
2
Remove the lamp harp. The lamp harp holds the lamp shade onto the lamp and is connected only by the force it places on the lamp harp base. To remove the lamp harp, squeeze the sides in toward each other and lift the lamp harp up and away from the lamp base.

3
Lift the exterior socket sleeve off of the lamp. Grab hold of the sleeve and lift straight up--slightly wiggle the sleeve if it does not slip off immediately. This will loosen the sleeve from the socket base and allow the sleeve to be removed to expose the interior bulb socket.
-
4
Grab the interior bulb socket and pull it up and away from the socket base. Pulling the interior bulb socket up will allow you access to the wiring and give you some slack in the wires to make the wiring of the bulb socket easier.

5
Wire up the bulb socket. Locate the aluminum screw on the side of the bulb socket and attach the wire that feels ribbed to it. Tighten the screw to hold the ribbed wire in place. Locate the copper screw and attach the wire that feels smooth to it and tighten the copper screw as well.
-
6
Pull the lamp cord to reduce the slack you created in step 4. Grasp the cord at the base of the lamp and pull away from the lamp gently.
-
7
Replace the socket sleeve by sliding it over the bulb socket and pushing it firmly into the socket base. Replace the lamp harp, light bulb and lamp shade.
