How to Draw Gothic People
In the year 410 Gothic people were instrumental in the fall of the Roman Empire, but many of today's Goths probably don't need to know that tidbit of history. What they do know is that they are a post-punk subculture that relates to mystery, individualism, darkness, and creativity. Today's Goths dress accordingly. Their fashion is distinctive, generally characterized by colorless skin with heavy eye makeup, black clothing and silver adornments. They do stand out in a crowd. Current Gothic people come in all sizes and shapes, so to draw one would entail more in the dressing and makeup than in body style.

1
Draw an unclothed outline of a person. Sketch in eyes, nose and mouth with no makeup.
-
2
Outline the eyes heavily in black, creating a thin line at the inside corners that becomes thick at the outside corners. Gothic makeup usually strives for the extremes of a black and white look. Sometimes eyeliner or shadow is smudged under the eyes. Sketch very light, pencil-thin, nearly invisible eyebrows. Color the lips and fingernails black or very dark red. The skin is left pale.

3
Draw the Goth hairdo of your choice. Goth hair is either short or long. Short Gothic haircuts are quite unconventional looking, usually uneven and asymmetrical. In many short Goth styles, side-parted bangs hang over one eye. Long hair may contrast with short, blunt-cut bangs. Color the hair black and add random streaks of bright color (hot pink, turquoise, neon green).

4
Draw a double-breasted jacket with multiple zippers and silver buttons for either a man or a woman. Standard Gothic clothing is black and silver. Pants can be either tight or very baggy. Draw lines indicating more than one pocket on them. Add military boots with high laces or buckles. For a lady, you may choose to draw a corset with colorful laces in a dark red or black print and a multi-layered or very tight straight skirt, finishing the costume with black net or striped stockings and thick high-heeled shoes.

5
Draw accessories on your picture. Chains are almost a requirement in traditional Gothic clothing. Draw chains that hang from the waist and either return to the waistband halfway around the body or that drape down to the button on a pocket. If you've drawn baggy pants, depict suspenders that hang unused from the waistband. Place studs randomly on cuffs, pockets and lapels. Chokers, armbands and necklaces with symbol pendants are also accessories you can add. At your discretion, add tattoos and piercings to your drawing of the Gothic person.
