With the right information at hand, you can send email from your Compuserve email account using any email program, including Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird. This is possible for both Compuserve Classic and Compuserve 2000 users; all you will need to get started is your current Compuserve account username (email address) and password; all accounts have the same host/server settings.

  1. Compuserve Classic (you@cis.com OR you@compuserve.com)

      Connect to Compuserve. Run the "go npx-92" command to generate a password for your email account. Write down this password.

      Open the Account Settings for your preferred email program.

      Choose POP or POP3 as your email account type.

      Enter 00000.000@compuserve.com as your email address. Note the period in lieu of the comma.

      Enter pop.compuserve.com as your Incoming Mail Server (POP).

      Enter smtp.compuserve.com as your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

      Enter your Compuserve username (in the original format, preserving commas) as your User Name.

      Enter the password from step 1 as your Password.

      Open the Account Settings menu of your preferred email program.

      Choose IMAP as your email account type.

    • 11

      Enter imap.cs.com as your Incoming Mail Server (IMAP).

      Enter smtp.cs.com as your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).

      Enter your Compuserve sign-on name and password as your User Name and Password.
