How to Change the Default Background and Text Colors on Web Pages

You don't have to keep the default background and text-color settings that you see on Web pages. You can change them to something more pleasing to your eyes. These instructions will change the colors for all browsers you use in Windows.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Modems
  • Internet Access
  • Web Browsers
  1. Step 1

    Click Start on your desktop.

  2. Step 2

    Go to Settings and click Control Panel.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click Internet Options.

  4. Step 4

    Make sure the General tab is selected.

  5. Step 5

    Click Colors.

  6. Step 6

    Deselect the Use Windows Colors checkbox.

  7. Step 7

    Click the Text button to bring up a color chart.

  8. Step 8

    Choose the color you want and click OK.

  9. Step 9

    Click the box next to Background and use the same procedure to change that color.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some Web pages use these default colors, but others use colors set specifically by the page designer. If a specific color has been set by the designer, the page will use that color, not the one you selected.
  • On a Macintosh, open a browser program and look for menus or commands such as Preferences, Internet Options or Settings.
