Transfer your photo slides to DVD to create a digital portfolio.

When most photography was film photography, photographers commonly presented their work to clients was via slides--small color transparencies factory-mounted in cardboard frames. As digital photography replaced film photography, however, slides became largely obsolete as a method of showcasing photographs. Digital storage, such as DVD media, took over. Instructions

    • 1

Scan each slide that you want to put on the DVD to create a digital image of the slide. Slide scanners are available at a wide range of price points, and slides can also be scanned on a standard computer scanner. Both dedicated slide scanners and conventional scanners almost always include their own software that can be installed to your computer and used for scanning; many include special transparency adapters to optimize quality. Some allow you to include multiple slides in a single scan.

Save all of your slide scans into one folder on your computer, so that they are easy to find. To create a new folder on your computer's desktop, right-click on the desktop, go to "New" and click "Folder." Name the folder something like "Picture Slides."

    • 3

Launch a DVD-burning program on your computer. If you do not have DVD-burning software installed, go to CNET and download one of the many available DVD-burning programs (see Resources.)

    • 4

Choose the "Data Disc" option in the DVD-burning software. The software opens the data-burning wizard to help you burn your slides to the disc.

    • 5

Pull the photo slides that you want to include on the DVD into the DVD-burning program. To pull a photo in, use the "Add Files" or "Import" button in the program, navigate to the photo folder that you created and double-click a photo to add it to the program. To add all of the photos at once, click on the first photo in the folder, press and hold the "Ctrl" button on the keyboard and use the arrows to highlight all of the files, then press the "Open" button.

Click through the screens of the DVD-burning program to the last screen. Click the "Burn DVD" button to burn the images onto the DVD.
