How Do I Transfer Data From an Old Hard Drive to My New Computer?
If you have an old hard drive that has data on it that you need to access from your new computer, you might wonder how you can get this data off. If so, you'll be happy to know that with a simple piece of equipment called a "hard drive enclosure," you'll be able to hook up your old hard drive to your new computer and copy every last file.

1
Use your Phillips screwdriver to take apart your external hard drive enclosure. This process varies depending on what type of enclosure you purchased, but the general process usually involves unscrewing two or more screws from the back or bottom of the enclosure and pulling it apart, exposing the circuitry inside.
-
2
Slide your old hard drive into the external hard drive, and push it tightly into the hard drive and data ports on the hard drive enclosure's circuit board.
-

3
Screw the hard drive down to the enclosure casing. The screw holes on the hard drive itself will line up with the screw holes on the enclosure casing, making it easy to fasten the two objects together.
-
4
Put the enclosure back together and close it tightly with your screwdriver. Plug the enclosure in to a power outlet and connect it to your computer via the data cable that is included with the enclosure.
-
5
Turn on the external enclosure and wait for your computer to recognize the drive. Once it has been recognized, you will be able to open a file explorer and copy your files from the old hard drive to your new computer.
