How to Change My Windshield Wiper on a 2003 Camry
Replacing the wiper blades on your 2003 Toyota Camry is crucial in order to optimize your vision during bad weather. Depending on the quality of blade purchased, most wiper blade manufacturers recommend replacing the blades at least once a year. Unfortunately, many drivers disregard the blades until they're not working well, and by then it's too late--it rains and your visibility is diminished. It's a good idea to purchase a set of blades and keep them stored in the trunk for when you'll need them, or replace them once a year no matter how well they're working.
Things You'll Need
- Thick towel
- 24-inch driver-side replacement blade
- 19-inch passenger-side replacement blade
Instructions
-
-
1
Lift the driver-side windshield wiper arm to a standing position.
-
2
Place a thick towel on the bottom of the windshield opposite the spring loaded wiper arm in case the spring accidentally deploys when the wiper blade is off. This will help protect the windshield from getting cracked or chipped.
-
-
3
Pivot the wiper blade clockwise, away from the wiper arm, then locate the release tab under the small J-hook at the end of the arm (at the center of the blade).
-
4
Press the release tab upward, toward the J-hook, and--while holding the tab--wiggle the blade downward, away from the J-hook, until it releases. Feed the J-hook through the upper access slot at the top of the wiper blade.
-
5
Place the 24-inch wiper blade's upper access slot over the J-hook, then pivot the blade counterclockwise until the clip of the blade aligns with the J-hook.
-
6
Lift the blade upward (by the metal part; not the rubber blade) until an audible click is heard. This is the release tab locking into place. Pull down on the blade to ensure it locked into place properly.
-
7
Use the alcohol wipe (supplied in the wiper blade packaging) to clean the surface of the rubber wiper blade section.
-
8
Remove the towel, then gently reposition the wiper arm against the bottom of the windshield.
-
9
Repeat for the passenger side with a 19-inch replacement blade.
