How to Get Job Orders as a Headhunter

How to Get Job Orders as a Headhunter thumbnail
Headhunting can be a challenging career.

A headhunter is only as good as the job orders he has to fill. Headhunters or recruiters are basically account executives. The job of a headhunter relies heavily on sales. You have to find where the job openings are then get the hiring manager to want your assistance in filling those jobs. And when they tell you they don't have any job orders, it's your job to convince them that they do, or at least should. Headhunting relies heavily on being able to sell yourself and your skills. It can be a challenging career but knowing where to look for jobs can help the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Join local networking groups. Introduce yourself to everyone. People might not have an open job when you meet them, but if someone likes you, they may contact you when they do have an open order.

    • 2

Carry business cards. Having your contact information readily available and ready to share is a great way for people to get a hold of you.

    • 3

Send emails to all of your contacts letting them know you are looking for jobs to fill. Ask them to share your contact information with others who may be hiring. You will probably find your personal contacts reach much farther than you ever could have expected.

    • 4

Log on to social networking sites. Many people are using Linked In and Facebook to do business these days. Take advantage of these free resources and post your information out there.

    • 5

Start calling local businesses. Sure it's time consuming, but people still like personal contact. If they don't have a current job opening, ask if you can call back in a month to follow up with them. Then do follow up as promised. People are more willing to do business with those that keep their promises.

    • 6

Pound the pavement. Target an area and go from office to office. Ask to speak with the hiring manager or human resources manager. Making direct, personal contact is a great way to find job orders. If they don't have any jobs to fill, follow up by calling them in a month.

    • 7

Attend job fairs. Meet companies that are hiring and offer your services as a headhunter. If you can persuade them that a headhunter is a cost effective solution to filling their open jobs, you could gain a lot of orders.

    • 8

Contact placement agencies and offer to help them fill their hardest-to-fill jobs. Once you prove yourself, they may send more job orders your way.
