How to Apply for Government Funding to Pay Bills

Millions of Americans struggle to pay their bills on a regular basis. Many do not realize that they may be eligible for government grants, which would help pay for personal expenses. The easiest way to apply for this funding is through the Grants.gov website. Researching various grants and opportunities will allow you to determine whether you are eligible to receive a loan. If you are, the application process can be completed by following the instructions on the website.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to Grants.gov home website and look under "find grant opportunities" to see if you qualify for funding. Under the "housing" category, for example, you can search through the specific available grants, including state veterans home construction program grants, assisted housing stability grants and economic development initiative grants.

    • 2

Register for the website by creating a username and password.

    • 3

Click "apply for grants" once you have found a specific grant you want to apply for. Download and fill out the application packet. The packet will download in Adobe Reader format onto your computer. The application will include basic information such as your name, address and social security number, as well as your annual income. You should gather monthly bank statements, in the event that the application reviewer wants you to supply copies.

    • 4

Save your application packet, double-check to make sure all information is correct, then click "save and submit". The application will automatically be uploaded to government grant reviewers. The reviewers typically respond in one or two months.
