This piece, known as a door seal or gasket, creates a barrier between the entry space and water inside your machine. Over time, gaskets shrink and become brittle. Instructions

    • 1

Set your new door gasket into a sink off hot water and let it soak while you get ready to work.

    • 2

Pull the old gasket off the door. Slide your fingers under a loose portion of the gasket and pull upwards. Watch as you pull the old gasket out to see how it fits to the door. For example, does the edging sit on top of a groove or sit inside. Knowing how the old gasket was installed will give you insight into the placement of a new gasket.

    • 3

Remove the replacement gasket from the sink. The hot water will have softened the rubber, making it flexible.

    • 4

Rub petroleum jelly along the flanges of the gasket. The will help the gasket slip into place.

    • 5

Start at the bottom of the dishwasher and work the gasket into the recess, move up one side, across the top and then down the other side of the door. Remember how the old gasket sat and emulate the installation.

    • 6

Close the dishwasher door once the new gasket is in place. Open and close the door a few times to guarantee the gasket will hold.

    • 7

Start the dishwasher and watch the door for leaks. Assuming the new gasket is adhering to the door frame, there should be no water coming out of the door.
