Zebra stripes are among the different animal prints you can mimic while dying your hair in wild colors and designs. For an easier but more costly alternative, you could buy some clip-in hair extensions that already have the zebra stripe design on them. If you still want to dye your hair yourself in the zebra stripe pattern, you will need the right supplies and tools to get the job done right. To make it easier, you should only dye a two-inch section of your hair at a time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Buy black hair dye or another color that will contrast with your base hair color. If your hair is dark, you will need to bleach the sections instead of dyeing them. You can also dye your hair first with a different light color such as red for the base color, as an alternative to the traditional black and white zebra stripes.

    • 2

Separate the section you want to dye or bleach from the rest of your hair with clips or a hair tie. Flat iron this section so you have a nice smooth, flat surface to paint the stripes on. Let your hair cool down and slip an alligator clip onto the section, about three or four inches from the top. This will keep your hair in place as you paint the stripes on.

    • 3

Follow the preparation directions in the hair dye or bleach box. Wrap a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothing or wear an old shirt you wouldn't mind staining permanently.

    • 4

Dip your hair dye brush into the black dye--or whatever color you are using for the stripes--and look at an image of zebra stripes to help you get them right. Take your time and wipe any excess off of the side of the brush so it doesn't bleed into the rest of your hair. When you come to the alligator clip, slide it down another three inches and continue on until you have reached the end of the section of hair.

    • 5

Wait for the amount of time specified in the hair dye or bleach instructions and rinse out, starting at the top. Work quickly so you don't slightly dye or bleach the other parts of your hair. Make sure all of the dye or bleach is gone and the water runs clear.

    • 6

Repeat the process on other sections as you wish. When you have finished with the sections, you can dry your hair and style it. Use your flat iron again on the sections so that the stripes are more clearly visible.
