How to Create a Zip File With Password

Zipped files are compressed in order to reduce their size so that they take up only limited space on your computer or portable storage devices. Adding a password to the zipped file ensures that the files are protected from unwanted people accessing them. Windows has a built-in function to compress the file and add a password to it so that you won't need any third-party software programs. It is simple to do and only takes a few minutes to compress and then add a password, to any file on your computer.

Instructions

1. Go to the file folder that contains the file you want to compress. Open the folder so that the file is visible.

2. Right-click on the file and then click "Compress." Wait while Windows compresses the file.

3. Add a password to the compressed file. Open the ZIP file by double-clicking on it. Click on "File > Add a Password" in the next window. Type in the desired password in the "Password" box. Confirm the password by typing it again in the "Confirm Password" box. Click "OK."
