Instructions

    • 1

Chip out small sections of joints in the structure of the fireplace with the hammer. Do not break any of the bricks. Make sure that joints are removed over a wide expanse of surface and not just in one isolated area.

    • 2

Tear off 3-inch-long sections of moss and place a small amount of super glue on the rooted side of the piece.

    • 3

Place each piece of moss, root side first, into the open joints that were chiseled out.

    • 4

Wait for one hour and then water the entire fireplace so that the brick absorbs the water and supplies enough moisture for the newly grafted moss.

    • 5

Water only on very hot and dry days. The brick tends to hold moisture that the tiny roots of the moss can get to.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the fireplace is located in a shady damp location, find moss that is growing in a damp and shaded spot. This will make the transfer a little easier. The opposite applies to a fireplace in a hot, dry spot. Moss should be found that is in a dry location.
