How to Connect the Wireless Modem to My Old PC?
Even though most computers build and sold today comes standard with a wireless card pre-installed on the computer, that wasn't always the case. Older computers usually just have a modem, ethernet card or USB port to connect devices to the Internet. Other than updating the components inside of an old computer, there are external solutions for getting a wireless Internet connection on these older systems. It can be done easily and doesn't require an extensive knowledge on computer hardware, which you would need to install a wireless card inside the computer.

Connect the wireless router to the connection source. Plug the router to a power source, such as plugging into a wall electric socket. Connect the phone cord or cable cord into the router, depending on the source of your Internet service provider.

Connect the wireless router to the computer with the ethernet cable or with a USB cable. You will get Internet service just by connecting the router right to the computer.

Plug in the external wireless adapter. Usually, you just plug in the adapter to the computer through the USB port. Follow the wizard to add a new hardware component to the system. The wizard will install the correct drivers so that the wireless adapter will work properly.

Establish a wireless connection between the adapter and the wireless router. After it is installed, the wireless adapter starts pulling in nearby connections. Find your wireless router and connect to it.

Unplug the wireless router from the computer so that your connection is completely wireless. Just unplug the cord that goes from the router to the computer; keep all the other wires in the router.
