Opening a free AOL email account is fairly easy. But closing down your free AOL email account is fairly complicated. Unlike Yahoo Mail or Gmail, there is no convenient option inside a user's account to delete his own email account. Instead, AOL email users must access AOL's billing account section, even if the email users are not an AOL Internet subscriber, and then they must submit a form electronically, by mail or by fax requesting the account be closed.

Instructions

1. Go to: http://bill.aol.com.

2. Sign into your account using your email user name and password.

3. Fill in the answer to the security question on the right-hand side of the page, and then click "Continue."

4. Click "Cancel My Billing" under "I Want To..." in the right panel.

5. Click on "How do I cancel my free member account?" under "Frequently Asked Questions."

6. Press "Click Here" to fill out and send your request to cancel your email account online. The form requires your screen name, which is the same as the email account user name, your full name, address, alternative email (if you have one) and electronic signature. Your email will be closed within 72 hours after the request is received.

7. Click on the "Click Here" option to download, print and then send or fax the form. Complete the request to cancel your free email account. Then mail or fax the form to:
