How to Measure a Queen Size Quilt
You may need to measure a quilt for a variety of reasons: to make sure it is large enough to fit a bed, to determine what size hanger you need to purchase, or to add additional borders or trim. No matter what your reason for measuring, the basic technique is the same. Your quilt should be measured when it is clean and dry, and you need to have enough room to spread the quilt out on the floor to ensure an accurate measurement.

1
Lay the quilt out on the floor, with the right side up.
-
2
Starting in the center, spread out the quilt, making the entire surface level and smooth. Work your way from the center to the edges of the quilt.

3
Adjust the edges of the quilt as needed to be as square as possible. Ideally, corners should be at 90-degree angles, but handmade quilts often have minor variances at the corners.
-
4
Stretch the tape measure across the width of the quilt from edge to edge. You should measure across the middle of the quilt to get the most accurate figure. Record this measurement.

Stretch the tape measure across the length of the quilt from edge to edge. You should measure across the middle of the quilt to get the most accurate figure. Record this measurement.

Tips & Warnings
Accuracy is important; take the time to really smooth your quilt and straighten the edges for best results.
You can record your finished measurements in a journal or on a quilt tag, so you can refer to them later if needed.
Measure a new quilt after it has been washed; it may shrink when it is laundered for the first time, and your original measurements will be incorrect.
