How to Integrate Technology Into the Language Arts Classroom
As our society becomes increasingly technologically-driven, educators are looking to incorporate more technology into the classroom. Fortunately, there are numerous ways Language Arts teachers can integrate technology into their classrooms.
Instructions

1
Examine your lesson plans and assess how technology could be used to enhance instruction or engage students in the learning process.
-
2
Start incorporating technology into your classroom gradually. You can use an LCD projector to present a visual aid to share with students as you lecture, for example. You may also wish to show movie clips that correspond with a novel your class is reading.
-
-
3
Aim to integrate technology into your curriculum at least once a week. Engage your students in activities like webquests when beginning the study of a new novel or literary genre. Plan a trip to the media center and create a webquest or use an existing one where students go to various websites and learn extensive information about a given topic. They are guided to complete assignments as they visit the websites to reflect their understanding of what has been read.
-
4
Use technology to reinforce concepts taught in class. You can have your students go to websites like Brainpop, which uses animated movies to teach and reinforce grammar concepts. You can also use Microsoft Word's revision tools to allow students to peer edit each other's papers.
-
5
Include technology in student assessments. Instead of writing a five-page persuasive essay, have students create a PowerPoint presentation on a given topic. Have them include persuasive writing on each slide and incorporate other persuasive techniques like illustrations, commercials, and slogans to demonstrate their mastery of persuasive writing.
-
6
Keep learning about ways to integrate technology into the Language Arts classroom. Participate in continued education opportunities that focus on teaching and reinforcing concepts and involving students in the learning process by incorporating technology. The more you learn, the more opportunities you give students to learn Language Arts in a multitude of ways.
