Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your area by making sure that all supplies are in place and easily reachable. Put on painting clothes or clothes that you don't mind getting dye on. You can also cover the clothes with towels or a styling cape. You will need to begin this process with dry hair.

    • 2

Mix equal parts of the highlighting powder and developer in your bowl. Tightly close the bottles containing the remainder of the powder and developer for later use.

    • 3

Put on the highlighting cap and pull it tightly over your head. Tie it under your chin to hold it in place.

    • 4

Use the tip of the crochet hook to pull small pieces of hair through the highlighting cap. Pull only a few stands of hair out for fine highlights. For heavier highlights, pull out larger chunks of hair.

    • 5

Apply the highlighting mixture onto the strands of hair that you have pulled through the cap. Apply it evenly from the roots all the way to the tips of the hair. When you are finished, cover your head with a shower cap.

    • 6

Allow the hair to dry according to the recommended time on the package. Check the hair every 10 minutes to see if it has reached the highlight color that you desire. Once it is ready, rinse the highlighting mixture from your hair. Shampoo and condition as usual with Redken products.
