How to Make a Divx DVD With Chapters
DivX is a compression format used to reduce the file size of large video file types, such as AVI. Not only can DivX compression decrease video files to a fraction of their file size, it can do so without a substantial loss of quality. DivX files are widely recognized in computer-based media players and in some video-editing programs. If you would like to view your DivX video files on a standard DVD player as well, you can create a standard DVD with your DivX files and even create video chapters.
Instructions

1
Download a DVD-writing application that accepts DivX files from Cnet.com (see Resources). ZC DivX to DVD Creator, Any Video to DVD Converter and Burner and Solid AVI DivX to DVD Burner are a few of the DivX-compatible programs available for download at this software review site.
-
2
Install the DVD-writing application onto your computer. To install, go to the "Downloads" folder, double-click on the set-up icon and follow the provided on-screen instructions.
-
-
3
Open the DVD-writing application on your computer. Import the DivX video into the program by clicking on the "Add Video" or "Import Video Files" button, searching for the file on your hard drive and double-clicking the file when you locate it.
-
4
Click on the button in the DVD-writing application that says "Chapters" or "Create Chapters." The chapter screen in most programs includes a few tools for splitting up the movie into chapter, along with a preview screen to preview your chapters.
-
5
Use the "Set Chapter by Scene Detection" or "Detect Chapters" option in the "Chapters" section if you would like for the program to attempt to separate the DivX video into chapter automatically. Once you have selected the "Detect Chapters" option, click "Start" and the computer separates the video for you. Once it is finished separating the chapters, start playing the video in preview window and click the "Next frame" button to see the start of each chapter that the program chose automatically.
-
6
Set the chapter manually if you don't like the way the DVD-writing program split the video. To set manually, use the slide bar beneath the preview screen to move through the video. When you get to a point where you would like to create a new chapter, click the "Set Chapter" button. The new chapter should appear in the chapter timeline on the screen.
-
7
Click the "Apply" or "OK" button when you are finished setting the chapter to return to the main screen. Go through the following screens of the DVD-writing program, insert a blank DVD into the DVD drive of your computer and click the "Burn" or "Write" button on the final screen of the program to burn the DivX with chapters to DVD.
