Lose the cord. It's time to go wireless.

One of the selling features of the HP 6830 printer is its ability to connect wirelessly to networked computers. Although it is possible to set up a 6830 with a wired USB cable, if you have your own wireless network, it is just as easy to add your printer to the network and make it accessible to any computer on your network. The process should only take a few moments, and once you are finished, you'll wonder how you ever got along without a wireless printer.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the software CD that came with your computer into your CD drive and then follow the prompts to install it. When you reach the prompt that says "Connection Type", select "Wireless" from the menu.

    • 2

Connect the printer to the computer using an Ethernet cable. Then follow the prompts and enter your network information. If you do not have your information handy, check your router's owner's manual for specifics on how to access your wireless connections setup or settings interface.

    • 3

Click the "Finish" button once you have entered all the information and print a test page. Then unplug the Ethernet cable. The wireless light on the front of the printer should be glowing.

Install software on other computers. For other computers on your network to use the computer, they all need to share the same software. However, you do not need to connect the printer by Ethernet cable to these additional computers since you already established the wireless connection.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are using a secure network, you will need to enter your network password when you access the printer.
