How to Get a Mirror Image on a Backup Camera

How to Get a Mirror Image on a Backup Camera thumbnail
The camera's orientation is controlled at the monitor.

After placing and installing a backup camera on a vehicle you need to adjust the orientation. The camera can be mounted in various spots on the back of the vehicle---most commonly using the license plate bolts. You can only mount it horizontally, but it can be upside down to take advantage of unique mounting requirements. The orientation is controlled at the monitor. This adaptability also allows you to orient the monitor right side up or upside down depending on your survey of the best mounting location.

Instructions

    • 1

Engage the handbrake. Turn the ignition key to the Accessory position and place the car in reverse gear. Do not start the engine.

    • 2

Switch on the monitor using the On/Off button.

    • 3

Look at the monitor and verify it matches the rear view mirror. If it does not, proceed to the next step.

    • 4

Press the Orientation button to toggle between orientations and correct the image. Each time you press the button the image will change. The permutations are: Normal, Mirror, Forward Upside Down and Mirror Upside Down.

    • 5

Switch off the monitor; place the car in neutral and remove the key.
