How to Calculate UPS Shipping Expenses
Shipping a package is easier than these days because you can do it without leaving home. You can now print and pay for a shipping label from your home computer and arrange for a carrier to pick it up. UPS is one of the major carriers that offer this time- and money-saving service. You can even make cost and time estimates before you ship and track your shipment once it has been picked up.
Instructions

1
Go to the UPS website and select the ‘Shipping’ tab.
-
2
Select ‘Calculate Time & Cost’ from the links on the left side of the screen.
-
-
3
Choose what type of quote you want. The options are Quick Time & Cost (Package), Quick Time & Cost (Letter), Detailed Time & Cost and Time-In-Transit Only.
-
4
Input the country, city and ZIP code you will be shipping from and to. You can use the ‘Find a ZIP Code’ tool if you need help. Select the origin type (commercial or residential) and the destination type, as well as the date you plan to ship and the number of packages that will be in your shipment.
-
5
Weigh and measure your package. If you don't have a postage scale, estimate by weighing yourself on your home scale, with and without your package. Subtract your weight without the package from your weight with the package to get a rough weight for the package.
-
6
Enter the type of packaging, weight and dimensions of the package and the declared value of the item inside. Select any additional services, like delivery confirmation or notification.
-
7
Input how you plan to get your package to UPS and whether you have a daily pickup. Click the ‘Next’ button to get your time and cost estimates for each UPS delivery option. Purchase one of these options by clicking on the blue ‘Ship’ button next to it.
